My personal experience working for Family Dollar Cooperation. A company that clears $28.75 Billion Annually. According to NYSE. The general manager still has her job. Location 2829 West Michigan Avenue Pensacola, Florida 32526
When I first applied for a position at Family Dollar, I applied for a manager position. I was told they couldn’t find my application. When talking with the General manager and the store manager, I was told to just put in as a cashier. Then I would be moved to an manager position. Instead the general manager of the store prolonged my start date so she could hire her friend a white Caucasian woman. Then when I asked her about the position she said it had already been filled.
So I continued to work! Why? I have obligations and bills to pay. After a few weeks goes by another manager put her two weeks in. The general manager told me that position was available and go apply! I did, then she tells me I applied for the wrong position and that the district manager said the position that was in the system was wrong. I re-applied for the Position again. In the mist of applying for the manager position, I was told I can only get the position if I switched out on a black manager. Also she needed to know if I had her back in order for me to get the position. I told the general manager that I do not show favoritism and I will NOT! Switch out on someone for a position. She replied I do show favoritism. The general manager accused the store manager and myself stating we talk about her. I replied and told her I didn’t sign up for drama and I will not switch out on this black manger for a position. The general manager got upset and never gave me the position. My highest education is a Bachelor’s Degree, In the past I have owned and operated my on companies and they were a success.
I felt like the general manager acted very inappropriate in a work setting. I reached out to Family Dollar corporate office and left several messages. No one returned my call. A week later I was three minutes late! The general manager which is a white woman. Starts yelling at me saying your fuckin three minutes late and you can clocked the fuck out if you clocked in. I looked at her and I replied, don’t take your problems out on me. The general manager says folks late, they do no call no shows. I explained to her that wasn’t my problem and she needs to discuss that with whoever she’s mad 😡 with! Not Me! I have my own problems. A customer was in the store as this general manager goes on to tell me I can get the fuck out! So I proceeded to walk out the store and I called her assistant to let her know what was going on. The general manager comes out the store tell me to get the fuck off her property and I could leave. The customer that was in the store recorded the manager and so did other customers. The customer was a black woman and she called corporate. Two other managers were on the phone when this all had taken place. The assistant manager told me to stay and just go back in. The assistant manager is how I got hired.
So I proceeded to clock in and when the assistant manager arrived the general manager was looking upset! The whole time she had beer reeking for her breath. After my shift was over, the following day I reached out to corporate they never returned my call. I left several messages no one called me back. I informed them that the general manager drinks on the job and what type of behavior that goes on. Nothing has been done about it. A week goes by! A employee tells the assistant manager that he hopes her dad dies today bitch and he’s probably already dead. The store manager father had been in the hospital for about a month and almost didn’t make it! By prayers of the righteous he finally was able to go home. The manager called the district manager and told her I hit this young man. She never told her the actual truth! So after carefully reviewing the cameras, the truth was revealed. The general manager lied.
At this time I asked to be transferred to another location closer to my house. In the system it stated they had two manager positions available! I applied for the position. I was told by the general manager that I had to be accepted by the other store manager. I woke up the following day with a text stating I was getting transferred. After I transferred the general manager gave another White woman the job. Her friend that she hired for the position i applied for.
She had given the position to another Caucasian woman , which was the other Caucasian woman daughter in law! Who had nohad no
When the other store manager called me, I inquired about the manager position. She told me the position has been filled already. So I asked the store manager, why was it online if the position were filled already. I was told that they keep them up there so people could apply. I replied ma’am if the position wasn’t available it would of said closed already or this job has expired. She replied that’s not how we do things. Do you want to be transferred or not! I replied yes! I still would like to be transferred, it’s closer to my house. The general manager of this store also stated they she didn’t know I was getting transferred. The cashier position pays $11.00 a hour. I never knew what the pay was in the beginning, originally I applied for a manager position. They give me 20-30 hours a week at $ 11.00 dollars a hour. How to they expect you to pay your bills off of that? Since working for this company there has been challenges, favoritism and racism. Dollar Tree and Family Dollar merged with one another. So according to the stock market after Dollar Tree & Family Dollar Makes roughly 2.5 Million daily.

How can you start employee pay at $11.00 hour and only give cashiers 20-30 hours a week. I’m not for sure what they pay in other states. In Pensacola, Florida something is not adding up. They treat black people from my experience not As equals! I was told by a general manager that! I would have to start off as a cashier to be able to move up to a better position. Well that’s not true! The district manager who runs at least 18 stores Only seem to higher White Caucasian Women in their 50’s.
Neither one of these women worked as a cashier for Family Dollar. In my opinion something is not adding up. How do they expect any human to be able to feed their families off of $11.00 hour? Not Only that! They want you to be the cashier, stock the shelves and do housekeeping etc all for $11.00 hour. When you go to ask for more hours they don’t have open payroll. Or when it’s beneficial for them to give you more hours . Family Dollar May have good prices but they treat employees unfairly and that is not a good thing. Seems like they watch all Blacks and majority of Family Dollar’s are in the hoods of low income households. They watch you to make sure you’re not stealing, I’m supposing due to the fact majority of black people steal.
I contacted an organization here in Pensacola, Florida to get help with a discrimination lawsuit. I was told it would be hard to get someone from this town to sue for racial discrimination! Of course thee organization was right! I did reach out to a law firm and of course they told me they couldn’t take my case after I had witness and other black people who have had the same encounter with these mangers and district managers in the past! So decided to write about my experience instead. One day justice will be served! This is not Jim Crow. We are not in Slavey and I will not be treated as such because the color of my skin. What people fail to realize is that! When you cut open your skin WE ALL BLEED RED🩸🩸. Just like we ALL have birthdays WE ALL have death days as well. Be careful how you treat others. God Judges a man’s heart ❤️! Not his wealth and the possessions he or she holds on this earth! I’ve never seen a business or money etc behind a hearse .
For those individuals who DO NOT discriminate cause the color of their skin. Thank you. Thank you to all individuals who doesn’t look at color and give people positions due to their work ethics! Not because I know her or him! We all deserve a chance to have decent lifestyles to support our families or are selves.
